Ink Collaboration Listing Conventions

I have noticed an inconsistency in the treatment of inks that are collaborations. In some instances, like Tono & Lims [also listed as Tono and Lims) there are a number of “X” variants like Tono & Lims x Raku.

For other brands, they are listed as Lines and not a separate ink. An example is Diamine, which has BlueBlack listed as a line, but it would more consistently be listed as an ink: Diamine x BlueBlack. Meanwhile, ColorVerse does have ColorVerse x BlueBlack in the ink list.

Is there a rule to make this consistent, and can ink and brand editors make those changes on the ink and brand listings?

I am not sure I understand which problem you are talking about. There are quite a few.

If you’re talking about the name of an ink itself you just pick whatever you think is best.

If you talk about some of the appearing as separate brands then … I am not sure. Some brands have collaborations with several ink manufacturers and certain ink manufacturers have collaborations with many shops. :man_shrugging:t2:

I guess that’s where the search comes in? One argument for not adding everything to the manufacturer (e.g. Diamine) is that the list is super long anyway and adding details for say Cult Pens would be easier if it has it’s own page.

Hi Urban - thank you for replying!

I guess I have a vested interest in this as I am particularly interested in the brands count. So my question really is about when is an ink collaboration a separate brand and when is it not?

Sure I can search for BlueBlack to find all of its iterations, but what is the criteria for Diamine having it as a line, while ColorVerse has it as a collaboration?

That means the BlueBlack collaboration is a new brand on my list only if I get the ColorVerse version, but not the Diamine one.

It won’t change what inks I want to try, but it tickles my brain that sometimes it will be a plus 1 on my brands list and sometimes it won’t.

That leads to the conundrum when I add in a new ink brand - should I do it as a separate entry under the name of the store/collaborator or as a line under the ink maker?

I am really just looking for a best practices rule on this. It seems that the collaboration model is getting more popular so this will definitely come up again.

I did think about it some more and ended up with “not my decision” :grimacing: In general I try to just let people add stuff as they want to and then figure out what the best way / majority way of dealing with it is. Sorry
