What are you using today?

Hi everyone, today I’m using my first custom pen. It was my Christmas gift to myself after a tough 2020 :stuck_out_tongue: it’s made by a local pen maker in Mexico, the brand is Stelios, the model is called Obsidion which usually has no clip, but I asked to add a brass clip. My first broad nib too!

I have three in use today. A Pilot Vanishing Point extra fine nib with Monteverde Emotions Kindness. A Bexley grey cigar shape prototype with a broad nib ground to a formal Italic point with Organics Studio Nitrogen. And, my new favorite an Esterbrook Estie Peacock with a journal nib with Callifolio Blue Atlantique ink.

I like the material, it has lovely shades of blue and has a nice depth to it. Congrats!

Hi Mary Ellen,

Welcome to the forum  The Peacock must look gorgeous and the Blue Atlantique is a pretty blue ink. Do you have a photo about the Bexley? Sounds interesting.

Kind regards,

Peter

A pen with an interesting Japanese hammering technique having a satisfying tactile feel. Coated using natural indigo giving it an amazing colour that changes depending on the angle.

This Wancher Japan Blue matches the Pennonia Tihanyi Lila perfectly, don’t you think?

Tihany lila is exactly the shade of lavender – the flower the Tihany Abbey is famous for.

Chromatography reveals that the ink contains a nice shade of blue as well. I recently learned a technique where you use bleach to write, draw or splatter on fountain pen ink. Tihany lila is among the inks that give a really pretty effect with bleach.

I have been using my Kaweco sports, working on the nibs as I go! I love these pens but owwwwwwwww the flow issues due to baby’s bottom etc…!Every so often I just can’t face them anymore but I keep wanting them!! Anyone else get this?

Also been playing with a massive Jinhao fude nib on an old Nemosine Singularity and a Noodlers Ahab… the nib is a monster!!!

I’m late to the posts…because you know…life…but anyway…nice pen, love the hammered detail. It’s so weird that to my eye neither the pen nor the ink match the lavender growing in my garden!
Question for you:
I find the bleach writing a bit confusing…do you lay down a swab of ink and write over it with straight bleach? My husband objects to strong smells so I have yet to try anything with it…but the work I’ve seen online has me so curious. TIA

I just bought my first Kaweco Skyline Sport in Grey Fine and the nib is perfect right out of the box!

Hi,

To tell you the truth I’m not too experienced but I’ve followed through a course of Nick Stewart (web: https://nickstewart.ink/ Instagram: @quinkandbleach course on Udemy: https://www.udemy.com/course/fountain-pen-ink-art-the-basics/ ).

There are several techniques you can use. You can write / draw over dry ink with diluted bleach. You can also sprinkle bleach on your ink art. What Nick Stewart teaches on his course for example is: Get a thick aquarelle paper, make it wet with water using a very thick brush and drop / sprinkle / paint with fountain pen ink at various stages of the drying process. Also use bleach to sprinkle wet ink, draw with bleach, and so on. He dilutes household bleach 50-50 with water. Put it into an empty ink bottle. When working with the bleach you use little amounts so it shouldn’t be too smelly. Never use the bleach with fountain pen because it will ruin it. Use a cheap dip pen. The bleach will corrode your dip pen nib too but dip pen nibs are easy to replace. When sprinkling bleach use a latex glove and use only brushes with synthetic fibres. Bleach destroys organic brush fibres. Please know that different inks react to bleach differently. Some can be quite resistant to bleach so you need to experiment with your inks.

Check out Nick Stewart’s Instagram channel or website to see some cool stuff he makes using fountain pen ink ad bleach. If you are interested in these techniques Nick Stewart’s Udemy course is a great way to jump into this.

Thank you! I’ll check it out!

Today it’s my new Scribo Piuma Utopia  Apart from the spectacular resin the pen has almost a bauhaus design. Clean, minimalistic, practical facets, subdued SCRIBO engraving with clear, easy to read lettering, nothing distracting (except for the material). Looks pretty sharp and timeless.

Hi everybody,

Just, I found a no name pen with an Iridium Pont Germany nib. Somebody can recommend me another nib?
On the feed I see a number: 4. This means, 35 mm nib No. 4? Because the nib is 35 mm.
I tried to put a Kanwrite nib, No.6, but it was not succesful. So, I think it is an No. 4.
I like flexible and calligraphi nibs, too. Can I put that kind of nib in this pen?

Thanks, Kristof.

I am so sad that I’ve lost my Mabie-Todd Swan in our latest move. I am hoping I will still find it in the last 4 boxes I still have to unpack. I loved that pen but got careless in packing up my study.

OMG hope you find it soon in one of the boxes or in a note book.

Hi! I’m new here! Using the Lamy Safari with Diamine Onyx Black, Moonman S5 with Iroshizuku Kon-Peki and Italix Parson’s Essential inked with Diamine Writer’s Blood.

No photos as currently on a bus…
